In 641, when the sources for Byzantine history are at their worst, the empire had four successive senior emperors, more than m any other year. The evidence for the exact dates of the first two successions is equivocal, and both dates remain in dispute; thus far no Scholar appears to have hazarded a guess about the exact date for the third succession.
