We present a new method for the evaluation of the age and age spread among pre-main-sequence (PMS) stars in star-forming regions in the Magellanic Clouds, accounting simultaneously for photometric errors, unresolved binarity, differential extinction, stellar variability, accretion, and crowding. The application of the method is performed with the statistical construction of synthetic color-magnitude diagrams (CMDs) using isochrones from two families of PMS evolutionary models. We convert each… Expand
PHOTOMETRIC DETERMINATION OF THE MASS ACCRETION RATES OF PRE-MAIN-SEQUENCE STARS. II. NGC 346 IN THE SMALL MAGELLANIC CLOUD*
We have studied the properties of the stellar populations in the field of the NGC 346 cluster in the Small Magellanic Cloud, using a novel self-consistent method that allows us to reliably identifyExpand
Photometric determination of the mass accretion rates of pre-mainsequence stars – III. Results in the Large Magellanic Cloud
We present a multiwavelength study of three star-forming regions, spanning the age range 1–14 Myr, located between the 30 Doradus complex and supernova SN 1987A in the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC).Expand
Photometric Determination of the Mass Accretion Rates of Pre-main-sequence Stars. IV. Recent Star Formation in NGC?602
We have studied the young stellar populations in NGC?602, in the Small Magellanic Cloud, using a novel method that we have developed to combine Hubble Space Telescope photometry in the V, I, and H?Expand
The massive stellar population in the young association LH 95 in the Large Magellanic Cloud
We present a spectroscopic study of the most massive stars in the young (4 Myr old) stellar cluster LH 95 in the Large Magellanic Cloud. This analysis allows us to complete the census of the stellarExpand
On the Reliability of Stellar Ages and Age Spreads Inferred from Pre-Main Sequence Evolutionary Models
We revisit the problem of low-mass pre-main-sequence stellar evolution and its observational consequences for where stars fall on the Hertzsprung-Russell diagram (HRD). In contrast to most previousExpand
CLUES TO THE STAR FORMATION IN NGC 346 ACROSS TIME AND SPACE
We have studied the properties of the stellar populations in the field of the NGC 346 cluster in the Small Magellanic Cloud, using the results of a novel self-consistent method that provides aExpand
Accurate determination of accretion and photospheric parameters in young stellar objects: The case of two candidate old disks in the Orion Nebula Cluster
Context. Current planet formation models are largely based on the observational constraint that protoplanetary disks have a lifetime of ~3 Myr. Recent studies, however, report the existence ofExpand
STAR FORMATION IN 30 DORADUS
Using observations obtained with the Wide-Field Camera 3 on board the Hubble Space Telescope, we have studied the properties of the stellar populations in the central regions of 30 Dor in the LargeExpand
PHOTOMETRIC DETERMINATION OF THE MASS ACCRETION RATES OF PRE-MAIN-SEQUENCE STARS. I. METHOD AND APPLICATION TO THE SN 1987A FIELD
We have developed and successfully tested a new self-consistent method to reliably identify pre-main-sequence (PMS) objects actively undergoing mass accretion in a resolved stellar population,Expand
The reliability of age measurements for Young Stellar Objects from Hertzsprung-Russell or color-magnitude diagrams
The possibility to estimate ages and masses of Young Stellar Objects (YSOs) from their location in the Hertzsprung-Russell diagram (HRD) or a color-magnitude diagram provides a very important toolExpand
