ABSTRACT Structural analysis and design optimization have recently been extended to stochastic approach to take various uncertainties into account. However in areas whwew it is not possible to produce accurate statistical information, the probabilistic method is not appropriate for stochastic structural analysis and design optimization, since improper modeling of uncertainty could cause greater degree of statistical uncertainty than those of physical uncertainty.
