A source block was designed with which to extract a thermal neutron beam from a tangential hole of the enriched uranium heavy water reactor PLUTO. It consists of a slab-shaped aluminum box of ordinary water, 1.5 cm in thickness, held at a grazing angle of 18 to the emergent beam. The intensity obtained is 25% greater than that given by an ordinary right-circular cylindrical plug of scattering material. (auth)
