The use of multi-rotor Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) for Search and Rescue (SAR) and Remote Sensing is rapidly increasing. Multi-rotor UAVs, however, have limited endurance. The range of UAV applications can be widened if teams of multiple UAVs are used. We propose a framework for a team of UAVs to cooperatively explore and find a target in complex GPS-denied environments with obstacles. The team of UAVs autonomously navigates, explores, detects, and finds the target in a cluttered… Expand

An Approach for Multi-UAV System Navigation and Target Finding in Cluttered Environments
TLDR
A framework of a team of UAVs with the aim of cooperatively finding a target in a real-world based environment with obstacles is proposed and results indicate that a POMDP formulation allows for uncertainty in observations and multi-agent navigation and target finding can be implemented in areal-time application in real- world based scenarios. A Framework for UAV Navigation and Exploration in GPS-Denied Environments
TLDR
The development of a framework that enables a drone to navigate in an unknown, unstructured and GPS-denied environment is presented and the implementation of the proposed framework will enable the use of UAV for autonomous navigation and exploration in challenging environments where GPS positioning is not available or limited. Enabling UAV Navigation with Sensor and Environmental Uncertainty in Cluttered and GPS-Denied Environments
TLDR
UBNAV provides a new method and an enabling technology for scientists to implement and test UAV navigation missions with uncertainty where targets must be detected using on-line POMDP in real flight scenarios. Expand
UAV Framework for Autonomous Onboard Navigation and People/Object Detection in Cluttered Indoor Environments
TLDR
A UAV framework for autonomous navigation to address uncertainty and partial observability from imperfect sensor readings in cluttered indoor scenarios and ensures personal safety by letting the UAV to explore dangerous environments without the intervention of the human operator is proposed. Expand
Multi-UAV based Autonomous Wilderness Search and Rescue using Target Iso-Probability Curves
TLDR
This paper addresses this constrained resource-allocation optimization problem via the use of iso-probability curves that represent probabilistic target-location information in a search region growing with time. Expand
Search and rescue under the forest canopy using multiple UAVs
TLDR
A multi-robot system for GPS-denied search and rescue under the forest canopy is presented, and a novel procedure based on cycle consistent multiway matching to recover from incorrect pairwise data associations is proposed. Expand
Collision-free Autonomous Navigation of A Small UAV Using Low-cost Sensors in GPS-denied Environments
TLDR
The indoor flight experiment demonstrates that the proposed system for small UAVs with low-cost devices can navigate without collision in fully autonomous missions while establishing accurate surrounding maps. Expand
Systemic design of distributed multi-UAV cooperative decision-making for multi-target tracking
TLDR
The proposed distributed method has a similar performance to the centralized method, and outperforms the greedy approach, and the cooperative decision-making approach is deployed in a simulation of a multi-target tracking problem. Expand
An Autonomous Multi-UAV System for Search and Rescue
TLDR
A modular architecture of an autonomous unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) system for search and rescue missions that is capable of providing a real-time video stream from a UAV to one or more base stations using a wireless communications infrastructure. Expand
