We present a procedural method to create floor plans considering user-provided requisites as well as the constraint of a building’s exterior walls. First, a grid is created in the available space. Then, each room is placed to occupy a single cell in the grid, and subsequently expanded, occupying adjacent cells to achieve its final size. This growth-based approach can generate different interior models which follow user requisites without relying on costly optimization steps. The proposed method…

A Preliminary Approach to Allocate Categories of Buildings into Lands based on Generative Design

This paper proposes a workflow that allocates houses on a plot of land that starts with GIS data and urban planning requirements and ends with a BIM model on that property and tackles the design process of allocation of houses by iterating and optimizing a parametric model.

Simulating Large-Scale 3D Cadastral Dataset Using Procedural Modelling

The results of the study show that the method is feasible for the simulation of large-scale 3D cadastral datasets and demonstrate the importance of the simulated dataset for developing efficient 3D Cadastral data management processes.

Constrained procedural floor plan generation for game environments

Paradigms Arctic is a game development studio that aims to be the "go-to place" for procedural content generation in the games industry.

Developing a Framework for Heterotopias as Discursive Playgrounds: A Comparative Analysis of Non-Immersive and Immersive Technologies

This study provides virtual museum space as an informational terrain that contains a “world within worlds” and presents place production as a layer of heterotopia and the subject of discourse and shows that the framework can serve diverse contexts to construct multilayered digital habitats and is flexible for integration into professional and daily life practices.

Rule-based layout solving and its application to procedural interior generation

This paper introduces a novel rule-based layout solving approach, especially suited for use in conjunction with procedural generation methods, and shows how this solving approach can be used for procedural generation by providing the solver with a user-defined plan.

Real-time procedural generation of `pseudo infinite' cities

This work presents an approach to procedural generation of `pseudo infinite' virtual cities in real-time, implemented on commodity PC hardware, resulting in interactive frame rates.

Procedural modeling of buildings

CGA shape is shown to efficiently generate massive urban models with unprecedented level of detail, with the virtual rebuilding of the archaeological site of Pompeii as a case in point.

Constraint-aware interior layout exploration for pre-cast concrete-based buildings

This work presents an interactive design tool to create desirable floorplans by computationally conforming to non-local functional and fabrication constraints and focuses on pre-cast concrete-based constructions, which lead to interesting discrete and continuous optimization possibilities.

Procedural Arrangement of Furniture for Real‐Time Walkthroughs

This paper presents a procedural approach to generate furniture arrangements for large virtual indoor scenes, to only furnish the rooms in the vicinity of the viewer while the user explores a building in real time.

Computing layouts with deformable templates

This paper generalizes existing specialized solutions and formulate a general layout problem by modeling important constraints and admissible template deformations, suitable for a large class of applications, including floorplans, urban layouts, and arts and design.

Computer-generated residential building layouts

A method for automated generation of building layouts for computer graphics applications using a Bayesian network trained on real-world data to construct a complete three-dimensional building with internal structure.

A Survey on Procedural Modelling for Virtual Worlds

This survey of procedural methods that are useful to generate features of virtual worlds, including terrains, vegetation, rivers, roads, buildings and entire cities, focuses particularly on the degree of intuitive control and of interactivity offered by each procedural method, because these properties are instrumental for their typical users: designers and artists.

Automatic Real-Time Generation of Floor Plans Based on Squarified Treemaps Algorithm

A novel approach to generate house floor plans with semantic information is presented, based on the squarified treemaps algorithm, which allows the creation of internal house structures with information about their features and functionalities.
