We propose an observation-driven time-varying SVAR model where, in agreement with the Lucas Critique, structural shocks drive both the evolution of the macro variables and the dynamics of the VAR parameters. Contrary to existing approaches where parameters follow a stochastic process with random and exogenous shocks, our observation-driven specification allows the evolution of the parameters to be driven by realized past structural shocks, thus opening the possibility to gauge the impact of…

DSGE Models with observation-driven time-varying volatility
TLDR
A novel approach to introduce time-variation in the variances of the structural shocks of DSGE models via an observation-driven updating equation that shows a significant improvement in the accuracy of density forecasts.
Hodges–Lehmann Detection of Structural Shocks – An Analysis of Macroeconomic Dynamics in the Euro Area
Structural shocks in multivariate dynamic systems are hidden and often identified with reference to a priori economic reasoning. Based on a non‐Gaussian framework of independent shocks, this work
Data-driven structural BVAR analysis of unconventional monetary policy
Abstract We apply a novel Bayesian structural vector autoregressive method to analyze the macroeconomic effects of unconventional monetary policy in Japan, the US and the euro area. The method
Identification of Singular and Noisy Structural VAR Models: The Collapsing-ICA Approach
When the number of variables is larger than the number of structural shocks driving the economy,<br>the associated structural VAR system is said to be singular. We propose an identification method
Macroeconomic responses to an independent monetary policy shock: a (more) agnostic identification procedure
This study investigates the effects of a monetary policy shock on real output and prices, by means of a novel distribution-free nonrecursive identification scheme for structural vector
Information-theoretic optimality of observation-driven time series models for continuous responses
We investigate information-theoretic optimality properties of the score function of the predictive likelihood as a device for updating a real-valued time-varying parameter in a univariate
Time Varying Structural Vector Autoregressions and Monetary Policy
Monetary policy and the private sector behaviour of the U.S. economy are modelled as a time varying structural vector autoregression, where the sources of time variation are both the coefficients and
Common faith or parting ways? A time varying parameters factor analysis of Euro-area inflation
We analyze the interaction among the common and country specific components for the inflation rates in twelve euro area countries through a factor model with time varying parameters. The variation of
Structural Vector Autoregressions With Nonnormal Residuals
In structural vector autoregressive (SVAR) modeling, sometimes the identifying restrictions are insufficient for a unique specification of all shocks. In this paper it is pointed out that specific
The macroeconomic effects of oil price shocks: Evidence from a statistical identification approach
We analyze the dynamics in the global crude oil market based on a structural vector autoregressive model. We identify the model by presuming that reduced form residuals can be traced back to
