A Lucas Critique Compliant SVAR model with Observation-driven Time-varying Parameters
@inproceedings{Bormetti2021ALC, title={A Lucas Critique Compliant SVAR model with Observation-driven Time-varying Parameters}, author={Giacomo Bormetti and Fulvio Corsi}, booktitle={SSRN Electronic Journal}, year={2021} }
We propose an observation-driven time-varying SVAR model where, in agreement with the Lucas Critique, structural shocks drive both the evolution of the macro variables and the dynamics of the VAR parameters. Contrary to existing approaches where parameters follow a stochastic process with random and exogenous shocks, our observation-driven specification allows the evolution of the parameters to be driven by realized past structural shocks, thus opening the possibility to gauge the impact of…

When the number of variables is larger than the number of structural shocks driving the economy,<br>the associated structural VAR system is said to be singular. We propose an identification method…

In an extended Monte Carlo study, evidence is presented that observation-driven models based on the score of the predictive likelihood function have similar predictive accuracy compared to their correctly specified parameter-driven counterparts.

In structural vector autoregressive (SVAR) modeling, sometimes the identifying restrictions are insufficient for a unique specification of all shocks. In this paper it is pointed out that specific…
