Electrically small antennas can be made to exhibit omnidirectional, dipole-like radiation patterns when operating in the transverse magnetic (electric dipole) mode, the transverse electric (magnetic dipole) mode or some combination of transverse magnetic (TM) and transverse electric (TE) mode radiation.
