  • In the 1970s, schoolchildren in Czechoslovakia were taught that as far back as the year 965, an itinerant Arab merchant recorded the existence of the city of Prague to the outside world. Two things were left out of the lesson. First, the merchant, Ibrahim ibn Jakub, was an Arabian Jew. Second, ibn Jakub recorded the existence not only of the city itself, but also of Jewish merchants in Prague markets.
