There is, of course, a large and useful body of work in which the standard techniques of semantics, based on higher order typed λ-calculus, are used to explain object oriented programming, often with emphasis on type-correctness [3, 4, 9, 10]. But there remains a lingering suspicion that these techniques, despite their power, somehow miss the point.
