In the present paper, a general integral equation is presented to calculate the forces exerted on a two-dimensional (2-D) body of arbitrary shape immersed in unsteady, incompressible flows. By finding the general solutions of a set of Laplace equations with particular boundary conditions, the equation can be simplified to produce a simplified formula for calculating the forces.
