Abstract A highly sensitive and selective fluorescence quenching method was developed to determine the bromate ion (BrO3 −) with 4,5-dibromophenylfluorone (DB-PF) as fluorogenic reagent. BrO3 − reacts with potassium bromide in sulfuric acid solution (0.6M) giving bromine (Br2) which is estimated with fluorescence quenching method using DB-PF as fluorogenic reagent.
