We have obtained V- and I-band photometry for about 700 stars in the field of the dwarf irregular galaxy IC 5152, previously considered a possible member of the Local Group. Deep VI color-magnitude diagrams are presented of the main body of this galaxy and of a nearby field. We infer a distance by comparison with the VI color-magnitude diagrams of similar galaxies and with theoretical isochrones. The distance modulus to IC 5152 is found to be m - M0 = 26.15 ± 0.2, adopting E(V-I) = 0. This…

The CO content of the Local Group dwarf irregular galaxies IC 5152, UGCA 438 and the Phoenix dwarf
We present a search for CO(1 → 0) emission in three Local Group dwarf irregular galaxies: IC 5152, the Phoenix dwarf and UGCA 438, using the ATNF Mopra radio telescope. Our scans largely cover the
Local Field of Galaxy Velocities
A sample of 145 galaxies having radial velocities relative to the centroid of the Local Group VLG < 500 km/sec and estimated photometric distances D < 8 Mpc is considered. The field of peculiar
The Sagittarius dwarf irregular galaxy: Metallicity and stellar populations ?
We present deep BVI observations of the dwarf irregular galaxy UKS 1927-177 in Sagittarius (SagDIG). Statistically cleaned V , $(B-I)$ color-magnitude diagrams clearly display the key evolutionary
Nebular abundances of nearby southern dwarf galaxies
The results of optical spectroscopy of H II regions in a sample of southern dwarf irregulars consisting of five dwarf galaxies in the Centaurus A group, four dwarfs in the Sculptor group, and eight
Near-Infrared Photometry of the Star Clusters in the Dwarf Irregular Galaxy IC 5152
We present JHK-band near-infrared photometry of star clusters in the dwarf irregular galaxy IC 5152. After excluding possible foreground stars, a number of candidate star clusters are identified in
The Progenitors of Dwarf Spheroidal Galaxies
The gas-deficient dwarf spheroidal (dSph) galaxies present an evolutionary puzzle that we explore in 40 early-type and late-type dwarfs in the Local Group and nearby field. Although dSph’s
The Luminosity-Metallicity Relation, Effective Yields, and Metal Loss in Spiral and Irregular Galaxies
I present results on the correlation between galaxy mass, luminosity, and metallicity for a sample of spiral and irregular galaxies having well-measured abundance profiles, distances, and rotation
The Luminosity Distribution of Local Group Galaxies
From a rediscussion of Local Group membership and of distances to individual galaxies, we obtain MV values for 35 probable and possible Local Group members. The luminosity function of these objects
Hot dust and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon emission at low metallicity : A Spitzer survey of local group and other nearby dwarf galaxies
We present Spitzer 4.5 and 8.0 μm imaging of 15 Local Group and nearby dwarf galaxies. We find that the diffuse 8 μm emission is spatially correlated with regions of active star formation. Our sample
The Solar Motion Relative to the Local Group
New data on the membership of the Local Group (LG) are used, in conjunction with new and improved radial velocity data, to refine the derivation of the motion of the Sun relative to the LG. The Sun

The Stellar Populations of NGC 3109: Another Dwarf Irregular Galaxy with a Population II Stellar Halo
We have obtained V- and I-band photometry for about 17,500 stars in the field of the dwarf irregular galaxy NGC 3109, located in the outskirts of the Local Group. The photometry allows us to study
The distance to nearby galaxy NGC 3109 based on the tip of the red giant branch
Deep VI CCD photometry of ∼4200 stars in a 3'.9×3'.9 central field of NGC 3109, a bright Magellanic-type spiral galaxy (Sm IV), has been obtained. The tip of the red giant branch (TRGB) of low-mass
▪ Abstract The Local Group dwarf galaxies offer a unique window to the detailed properties of the most common type of galaxy in the Universe. In this review, I update the census of Local Group dwarfs
Candidate galaxies for study of the local velocity field and distance scale using Space Telescope. I. The most easily resolved
Photographs for 95 nearby galaxies that have promise of high resolution into individual stars with Space Telescope are illustrated in 21 panels of an atlas. The criteria used to choose the candidates
An asymptotic giant branch star survey in the Small Magellanic Cloud
Photographic V- and I-band photometry of a 0.8 sq deg region in the Small Magellanic Cloud is presented. The V - I color index is used to identify the candidate asymptotic giant branch (AGB) stars in
Stellar Populations of the Dwarf Irregular Galaxy WLM
We have obtained V-band photometry for 8000 stars, and I-band photometry for 16000 stars in the field of the dwarf irregular galaxy WLM, a member of the Local Group. From the VI color-magnitude
Deep CCD survey - Galaxy luminosity and color evolution
Imaging and photometric observations of a statistically complete sample of galaxies in 12 high-latitude fields, obtained in the BJ (360-520 nm), R (580-720 nm) and I (780-1100 nm) bands using CCD
DDO 154 - A dark galaxy
The mass distribution of the gas-rich dwarf irregular galaxy DDO 154 is studied. The large extent of the H I component allows us to determine unambiguously the rotation curve out to 4R(HO) (7R sub
Discovery of Numerous Dwarf Galaxies in the Two Nearest Groups of Galaxies.
We report the discovery of a large population of dwarf irregular galaxies in the two nearest groups of galaxies outside the Local Group, the Sculptor and the Centaurus A groups (2.5 and 3.5 Mpc).
Dwarf Galaxies Also Have Stellar Halos
We present evidence for the existence of an old stellar halo in the dwarf irregular galaxy WLM, an isolated member of the Local Group. The halo consists of Population II stars, with low metallicities
