In this paper, we propose an innovative infrastructure for real-time, virtual classrooms, in which multiagent system intelligence is employed and distributed computing principles are used to facilitate interaction and cooperation among agents -allowing agents to gather data and disseminate information. Our goal is to increase active student participation and improve the timely response of an instructor to students’ questions and actions during the delivery of a lecture. We also aim to enhance the real-time collaboration among students via multiagent system intelligence. Our approach is content-independent infrastructural technology. In our design, we focus on addressing issues in any classroom without fixating at a particular content (e.g., Mathematics). We also focus on technology-related properties such as scalability, flexibility, and portability.
