Chromosomal and biochemical investigations of shrews from genus Crocidura from Crete and Turkey show that C. russula monacha Thomas, 1906 and C. caneae Miller, 1909 are both members of the species C. suaveolens Pallas, 1811. C. russula zimmermanni Wettstein, 1953 is a well defined species: C. zimmermanni Wettstein, 1953.

The Distribution Problem of Crocidura russula (Hermann, 1780) (Mammalia: Insectivora) in Turkey
TLDR
To elucidate distribution problem of Crocidura russula (Hermann, 1780) species, 298 samples were taken from different geographical areas, type localities and record areas of Turkey, which were morphologically similar to C. russulas and those examined characteristics have been compared among themselves and compared to literature data. The karyotype of Crocidura flavescens (Mammalia, Insectivora) in South Africa
Karyological results give evidence that the South African Crocidura flavescens (Geoffroy, 1827) is not conspecific with the West and East African giant shrews of the taxa spurrelli, manni, kivu andExpand
Taxonomy and Distribution of the White Toothed Shrews Crocidura)(Soricidae: Insectivora: Mammalia) of Turkey
A total of 359 samples were collected from different geographical regions in Turkey and the species boundaries of white toothed shrews (genus Crocidura) in Turkey were defined using morphological andExpand
FIRST RECORDS OF CROCIDURA SUAVEOLENS (MAMMALIA, SORICOMORPHA, SORICIDAE) ON KARPATHOS AND SARIA ISLANDS (DODECANESE, GREECE)
Crocidura suaveolens was identified amongst skull remains from raptor pellets on Karpathos and in a discarded bottle on Saria. There are no data for this species in these two islands. In theExpand
MOLECULAR PHYLOGENETICS OF CROCIDURA SHREWS (INSECTIVORA) IN EAST AND CENTRAL ASIA
TLDR
Phylogenetic relationships among 8 species of white-toothed shrews in East and Central Asia were evaluated based on mitochondrial cytochrome-b gene sequences, finding that C. dsinezumi, C. shantungensis, and C. sibirica formed a well-supported monophyletic group. Expand

The Crocidura fuliginosa species complex (Mammalia: Insectivora) in peninsular Malaysia: Biological, karyological and genetical evidence
TLDR
Four West Malaysian shrew populations of the genus Crocidura were investigated through their karyotype and allozyme variations, and, in part, by interfertility experiments, indicating that both karyotypes correspond to a relatively ancient separation. Expand

The chromosome study of 14 shrews of the genus Crocidura caught in the Tessin confirms the presence of two species South of the Alps C. leucodon and C. mimula, but not C. russula and permits the rectification of the karyotype formerly described and to point out a polymorphism based on the existence of supernumerary autosomes.
