We conduct a comprehensive analysis of the relationship between central galaxies and their host dark matter halos, as characterized by the stellar mass-halo mass (SM-HM) relation, with rigorous consideration of uncertainties. Our analysis focuses on results from the abundance matching technique, which assumes that every dark matter halo or subhalo above a specific mass threshold hosts one galaxy. We provide a robust estimate of the SM-HM relation for 0 < z < 1 and discuss the quantitative… Expand
The integrated stellar content of dark matter halos
Measurements of the total amount of stars locked up in galaxies as a function of host halo mass contain key clues about the efficiency of processes that regulate star formation. We derive the totalExpand
The Correlation Between Halo Mass and Stellar Mass for the Most Massive Galaxies in the Universe
We present measurements of the clustering of galaxies as a function of their stellar mass in the Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey. We compare the clustering of samples using 12 differentExpand
The COSMOS-UltraVISTA stellar-to-halo mass relationship: new insights on galaxy formation efficiency out to z ∼ 5
Using precise galaxy stellar mass function measurements in the COSMOS field we determine the stellar-to-halo mass relationship (SHMR) using a parametric abundance matching technique. The uniqueExpand
The Impact of Environment on the Stellar Mass–Halo Mass Relation
A large variance exists in the amplitude of the Stellar Mass - Halo Mass (SMHM) relation for group and cluster-size halos. Using a sample of 254 clusters, we show that the magnitude gap between theExpand
On the intermediate-redshift central stellar mass-halo mass relation, and implications for the evolution of the most massive galaxies since Z~1
The stellar mass-halo mass relation is a key constraint in all semi-analytic, numerical, and semi-empirical models of galaxy formation and evolution. However, its exact shape and redshift dependenceExpand
The stellar-to-halo mass relation over the past 12 Gyr
Understanding how galaxy properties are linked to the dark matter halos they reside in, and how they co-evolve is a powerful tool to constrain the processes related to galaxy formation. TheExpand
We infer the local stellar-to-halo/subhalo mass relations (MRs) for central and satellite galaxies separately. Our statistical method is an extension of the abundance matching, halo occupationExpand
The dwarfs beyond: The stellar-to-halo mass relation for a new sample of intermediate redshift low-mass galaxies
A number of recent challenges to the standard ΛCDM paradigm relate to discrepancies that arise in comparing the abundance and kinematics of local dwarf galaxies with the predictions of numericalExpand
Constraining scatter in the stellar mass–halo mass relation for haloes less massive than the Milky Way
Most galaxies are hosted by massive, invisible dark matter haloes, yet little is known about the scatter in the stellar mass–halo mass relation for galaxies with host halo masses Mh ≤ 1011M⊙. UsingExpand
The Average Star Formation Histories of Galaxies in Dark Matter Halos from z = 0-8
We present a robust method to constrain average galaxy star formation rates (SFRs), star formation histories (SFHs), and the intracluster light (ICL) as a function of halo mass. Our results areExpand

Constraints on the relationship between stellar mass and halo mass at low and high redshift
We use a statistical approach to determine the relationship between the stellar masses of galaxies and the masses of the dark matter halos in which they reside. We obtain a parameterizedExpand
How do galaxies populate dark matter haloes
For any assumed standard stellar initial mass function, the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) gives a precise determination of the abundance of galaxies as a function of their stellar mass over theExpand
We show that different stellar mass estimation methods yield overall mass scales that disagree by factors up to ~2 for the z = 0 galaxy population and, more importantly, relative mass scales thatExpand
A First Estimate of the Baryonic Mass Function of Galaxies
We estimate the baryonic (stellar+cold gas) mass function of galaxies in the local universe by assigning a complete sample of Two Micron All Sky Survey and Sloan Digital Sky Survey galaxies a gasExpand
On the galaxy stellar mass function, the mass-metallicity relation, and the implied baryonic mass function
A comparison between published field galaxy stellar mass fun ctions (GSMFs) shows that the cosmic stellar mass density is in the range 4‐8 per cent of the baryon density (assuming b = 0.045). ThereExpand
The Halo Occupation Distribution: Toward an Empirical Determination of the Relation between Galaxies and Mass
We investigate galaxy bias in the framework of the halo occupation distribution (HOD), which defines the bias of a population of galaxies by the conditional probability P(N|M) that a dark matter haloExpand

Linking halo mass to galaxy luminosity
In this paper we present a new, essentially empirical, model for the relation between the mass of a dark matter halo/subhalo and the luminosity of a galaxy hosted in it. To estimate this, we replaceExpand
