The ability of three software to simulate freeway operations was tested under moderateto-heavy traffic with and without an incident, and heavy traffic. Sensitivity with respect to freeway mainline lanes, capacity and jam density also was inspected. Cross-sectional (spot) speeds obtained with AUTOSCOPE as well as segment average speeds obtained with instrumented vehicles were used for making objective comparisons.
