The objective of this study was to determine the antioxidant activity of different pineapple varieties namely Josephine ( Ananas comosus L. var. comosus cv. Josephine), Morris ( Ananas comosus L. var. comosus cv. Morris), and Sarawak ( Ananas comosus L. var. comosus cv. Sarawak). Different concentrations of methanol, ethanol, and acetone were used to extract the phenolic compounds. Folin Ciocalteu’s reagent was used to determine the total phenolic content. The ascorbic acid content of the fruit…

Potential of Industrial Pineapple (Ananas comosus (L.) Merrill) By-Products as Aromatic and Antioxidant Sources

Pineapple is meanly commercially processed. However, it is a fruit that generates a high proportion of nonedible wastes, which are rich in antioxidant compounds and have a varied aromatic profile.

Pineapple peel wastes as a potential source of antioxidant compounds

Indonesia is a large pineapple (Ananas comosus) producing country. Food industries in Indonesia processed this fruit for new products and further resulted wastes of which cause an environmental

A phytopharmacological review on Ananas comosus

The taxonomical characteristics, biochemical properties, traditional perspectives, karyotypic analysis, phytochemical investigation, toxicological study, nutritional benefit, and biological activities of Ananas comosus are described to help researchers in searching for scientific information and a source of new drug discovery approaches in the future.

Optimisation of pressurised liquid extraction of bioactive compounds from Ananas comosus (Pineapple) fruit

In this study, pressurized liquid extraction (PLE) was used with methanol as extraction solvent to extract bioactive compounds from Ananas comosus (pineapple) flesh. Response surface methodology

Effect of Vermicompost Application on Bioactive Properties and Antioxidant Potential of MD2 Pineapple Fruits

The results suggested that vermicompost cannot completely replace chemical fertilizer for the production of fruits with a high content of phytoconstituents but could be used as an additional supplement to reduce environmental pollution and ensure agricultural sustainability.

A FACILE METHOD FOR TESTING ANTIOXIDANT CAPACITY AND TOTAL PHENOLIC CONTENT OF NOTOBASIS SYRIACA AND SCOLYMUS MACULATUS EXTRACTS AND THEIR ANTIFUNGAL ACTIVITY

In this study, three extracts of the aerial parts of Notobasis syriaca and Scolymus maculatus were prepared. Each extract was tested for antifungal activity against Rhizopus stolonifer (black mold),

MICROWAVE-ASSISTED EXTRACTION OF PHENOLIC COMPOUND FROM PINEAPPLE SKINS : THE OPTIMUM OPERATING CONDITION AND COMPARISON WITH SOXHLET EXTRACTION

A new method of extraction by using a microwave has been widely used in the extracting of bioactive compound from plants. In this research, the pineapple (Ananas comosus L., Merr) wastes (namely

Antioxidant capacity of banana peel and its modulation of Nrf2-ARE associated gene expression in broiler chickens

Abstract Bananas are one of the most popular fruits worldwide, producing over 100 million tons in 2013. Banana peel, a byproduct that represents 40% of the entire banana’s weight, is rich in

Optimization of Ultrasonic Assisted Extraction of Bioactive components from different Parts of Pineapple Waste

Waste accumulation is a serious problem in recent times as they cause serious effects to the environment. Pineapple waste is one among them and it includes the peel, core, stem and crown, which is
