The Asiago Supernova Catalog is used to carry out a comparative study of supernova absolute magnitude distributions. An overview of the absolute magnitudes of the supernovae in the current observational sample is presented, and the evidence for subluminous and overluminous events is examined. The fraction of supernovae that are subluminous (MB > -15) appears to be higher (perhaps much higher) than but it remains very uncertain. The fraction that are overluminous (MB > -20) is lower (probably…

- 2015
We report the results of the photometric and spectroscopic monitoring campaign of the transient SN 2007sv. The observables are similar to those of Type IIn supernovae, a well-known class of objects…
Nearby supernova rates from the Lick Observatory Supernova Search – I. The methods and data base

We report the results of the Mount Stromlo Abell cluster supernova search, a three-year project to find supernovae (SNe) in a well-defined sample of high-density, southern Abell clusters with…
Characterizing Supernova Progenitors via the Metallicities of their Host Galaxies, from Poor Dwarfs to Rich Spirals
- Physics
- 2008
We investigate how the different types of supernovae are relatively affected by the metallicity of their host galaxy. We match the SAI supernova catalog to the SDSS DR4 catalog of star-forming…
Supernovae and their host galaxies – V. The vertical distribution of supernovae in disc galaxies
- Physics
- 2017
We present an analysis of the height distributions of the different types of supernovae (SNe) from the plane of their host galaxies. We use a well-defined sample of 102 nearby SNe appeared inside…
DISCOVERY OF THE EXTREMELY ENERGETIC SUPERNOVA 2008fz

We report on the discovery and initial observations of the energetic type IIn supernova 2008fz. This object was discovered at redshift z = 0.133 and reached an apparent magnitude of V ∼ 17. After…
The Rate of Type Ia Supernovae at High Redshift
- Physics
- 2006
We derive the rates of Type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia) over a wide range of redshifts using a complete sample from the IfA Deep Survey. This sample of more than 100 SNe Ia is the largest set ever…
