We present a catalog of 224 broad absorption line quasars (BALQSOs) from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey's Early Data Release Quasar Catalog, including a relatively complete and homogeneous subsample of 131 BALQSOs. Since the identification of BALQSOs is subject to considerable systematic uncertainties, we attempt to create a complete sample of SDSS BALQSOs by combining the results of two automated selection algorithms and a by-eye classification scheme. One of these automated algorithms finds… Expand
A Catalog of broad absorption line quasars from the sloan digital sky survey third data release
We present a total of 4784 unique broad absorption line quasars from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey Third Data Release. An automated algorithm was used to match a continuum to each quasar and toExpand
Continuum and Emission-Line Properties of Broad Absorption Line Quasars
We investigate the continuum and emission-line properties of 224 broad absorption line quasars (BALQSOs) with 0.9 z 4.4 drawn from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey Early Data Release, which contains 3814Expand
FR II Broad Absorption Line Quasars and the Life Cycle of Quasars
By combining the Sloan Digitized Sky Survey Third Data Release quasar list with the VLA FIRST survey, we have identified five objects having both broad absorption lines in their optical spectra andExpand
Classifying broad absorption line quasars: metrics, issues and a new catalogue constructed from SDSS DR5
We apply a recently developed method for classifying broad absorption line quasars (BALQSOs) to the latest quasi-stellar object (QSO) catalogue constructed from Data Release 5 of the Sloan DigitalExpand
LOW-z Mg II BROAD ABSORPTION-LINE QUASARS FROM THE SLOAN DIGITAL SKY SURVEY
We present a sample of 68 low-z Mg II low-ionization broad absorption-line (loBAL) quasars. The sample is uniformly selected from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey Data Release 5 according to theExpand
Properties of radio-detected broad absorption line quasars from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey
We investigate the optical colors and radio morphologies of 214 broad absorption line (BAL) quasars with FIRST detections in the redshift range 1.68≤z≤4.93 drawn from the Sloan Digital Sky SurveyExpand
The fraction and mid-infrared properties of broad absorption line quasars from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey
We present the results of a study which uses a sample of 1822 Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) quasars with reliable Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer (WISE) detections in the redshift rangeExpand
The far-infrared properties of broad absorption line quasars from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey
We present the results of a study which uses a sample of 320 Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) quasars with 1.68≤z≤2.28 inside the Herschel Stripe 82 Survey (HerS) region to compare the mid-infraredExpand
A strong redshift dependence of the broad absorption line quasar fraction
We describe the application of non-negative matrix factorization to generate compact reconstructions of quasar spectra from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS), with particular reference to broadExpand
A Comprehensive Study of Broad Absorption Line Quasars: I. Prevalence of HeI* Absorption Line Multiplets in Low-Ionization Objects
Neutral Helium multiplets, HeI*3189,3889,10830 are very useful diagnostics to the geometry and physical conditions of the absorbing gas in quasars. So far only a handful of HeI* detections have beenExpand

Broad absorption line quasars in the sloan digital sky survey with VLA first radio detections
We present 13 broad absorption line (BAL) quasars, including 12 new objects, identi—ed in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) and matched within 2A to sources in the FIRST radio survey catalog. TheExpand
Broad Absorption Line Quasars in the Early Data Release from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey
A new broad absorption line (BAL) quasar sample is derived from the first data released by the Sloan Digital Sky Survey. With 116 objects, it is the largest BAL quasar sample yet assembled. Over theExpand
Unusual broad absorption line quasars from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey
The Sloan Digital Sky Survey has confirmed the existence of populations of broad absorption line (BAL) quasars with various unusual properties. We present and discuss twenty-three such objects andExpand
Properties of Radio-selected Broad Absorption Line Quasars from the First Bright Quasar Survey
In a spectroscopic follow-up to the VLA FIRST survey, the FIRST Bright Quasar Survey (FBQS) has found 29 radio-selected broad absorption line (BAL) quasars. This sample provides the first opportunityExpand
The sloan digital sky survey Quasar Catalog. I. Early data release
We present the first edition of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) Quasar Catalog. The catalog consists of the 3814 objects (3000 discovered by the SDSS) in the initial SDSS public data release thatExpand
Composite Quasar Spectra from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey
We have created a variety of composite quasar spectra using a homogeneous data set of over 2200 spectra from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS). The quasar sample spans a redshift range of 0.044 ≤ zExpand
