An electron gun (80 kV / 75 A) for a 170 GHz coaxial cavity gyrotron has been designed, fabricated and tested. Special care has been devoted to the design of the technical part of the electron gun in order to avoid trapping of electrons, which may result in a limitation of the high voltage performance due to built-up of a Penning discharge which may limit the high voltage performance.
