Motivation: A number of techniques exist for the detection of short, subtle conserved regions within DNA and amino acid sequences. The purpose of this overview is to present the ideas of Gibbs sampling in terms of the data, parameters, model, and procedure both in a general sense and through an application of Gibbs sampling for multiple sequence alignment.
