Abstract Volcanic sequences of the late Archaean Abitibi greenstone belt comprise: (1) 2750 to 2720 Ma arc-type assemblages; (2) ∼2720 to 2707 Ma komatiite–tholeiite assemblages; and (3) post-2716 Ma tholeiite-to-calc alkalic arc-type assemblages. In the Malartic Block, and elsewhere in the Abitibi belt, depleted tholeiites (DT) are associated with the transition from komatiitic assemblages to the younger arc-type sequences.
