The total land area of tropical Asia is approximately 800 million ha. Of this area, around 28%-29% is arable land [39], and this percentage has remained more or less stable over the last decade. Agricultural production, on the other hand, has increased dramatically over the same period. For instance, cereal production in the 11 largest south and southeast Asian countries increased by 30%, reflecting the intensification of agricultural PrOduction in tropical Asia.
