The 3D Virtual Reconstruction and Visualization of Complex Architectures (3D-Arch) project started in 2005 and is now completed. It proposes an integrated approach based upon a combination of different 3D measurement techniques for the virtual reconstruction of complex architectures like those found in medieval castles. This paper summarizes the work done in this project, consolidates incremental work published earlier, and details the latest developments and results. Since no established…

A digital reconstruction procedure from laser scanner survey to 3D printing: the theoretical model of the Arch of Trajan (Ancona)

A digital reconstruction procedure from laser scanning survey to 3D printing of theoretical model, realized with a virtual reconstruction reality-based, to show the connection and the relationship between the development of the latest technologies and the cultural heritage.

AN IMAGE-BASED APPROACH FOR THE ARCHITECTURAL MODELING OF PAST STATES

During the modelling process, 3D models are not easily conceived to support changes over time. On the contrary, for the description of cultural heritage, it is often necessary to display not only the

3D MODELING OF A COMPLEX BUILDING: FROM MULTI-VIEW IMAGE FUSION TO GOOGLE EARTH PUBLICATION

A pipeline that aims at illustrating the procedure to realize a 3D model of a complex building integrating the UAV and terrestrial images and modifying the3D model in order to publish to Google Earth in an interactive modality so as to provide better available models for visualization and use.

A WEB-BASED INTERACTIVE TOOL FOR MULTI-RESOLUTION 3D MODELS OF A MAYA ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITE

Abstract. Continuous technological advances in surveying, computing and digital-content delivery are strongly contributing to a change in the way Cultural Heritage is "perceived": new tools and

3D RECORDING FOR 2D DELIVERING – THE EMPLOYMENT OF 3D MODELS FOR STUDIES AND ANALYSES –

This article presents some surveying and 3D modeling experiences within the APSAT project, a multidisciplinary project funded by the Autonomous Province of Trento (Italy) with the aim documenting, surveying, studying, analysing and preserving mountainous and hill-top heritage sites located in the region.

A Tool for the 3D Spatio-Temporal Structuring of Historic Building Reconstructions

The interface developed is detailed in order to accomplish multiple related tasks concerning the spatio-temporal structuring of the morphology to be reconstructed and spatial relations established between 2D iconography and 3D representation for the visual browsing of information based on spatiotemporal criteria.

Design and implement a reality-based 3D digitisation and modelling project

This article composes a critical review of the digitisation pipeline, ranging from sensor selection and planning to data acquisition, processing and visualisation.

Generation of a Spatial Information System for architecture with laserscanning data

The completion of the 3-D model of their complex structure is presented here through the description of its main stages, i.e. data acquisition, registration and modelling, which clarifies the shape, the composition, the state of conservation and the structural function of the wooden beams of the domes.

AUTOMATION IN 3 D RECONSTRUCTION : RESULTS ON DIFFERENT KINDS OF CLOSE-RANGE BLOCKS

A methodology to automatically orient a set of targetless close-range images taken with a calibrated camera and the following creation of 3D models with a multi-image matching algorithm is presented.

QUERYARCH3D: QUERYING AND VISUALISING 3D MODELS OF A MAYA ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITE IN A WEB-BASED INTERFACE

The visualisation and query front-end enables the 3D navigation of the models in a virtual environment, as well as the interaction with the objects by means of queries based on attributes or on geometries, and the developed QueryArch3D tool is presented.

Detailed 3D Modelling of Castles

This work presents a sequential approach that combines multiple techniques, each where best suited, to capture and model the fine geometric detail of castles, and demonstrates that it is effective, accurate, and creates highly detailed models suitable for interactive visualization.

Detailed 3D reconstruction of large-scale heritage sites with integrated techniques

This approach integrates several technologies based on the experience over more than a decade of trying to accurately and completely model large-scale heritage monuments and sites to model a highly detailed structure or site at various levels of detail.

3D ACQUISITION, MODELLING AND VISUALIZATION OF NORTH GERMAN CASTLES BY DIGITAL ARCHITECTURAL PHOTOGRAMMETRY

In order to create virtual realities, three-dimensional scenes must be generated digitally. Frequently such scenes are freely invented in computer games and have little or nothing to do with reality.

PHOTO-REALISTIC 3-D RECONSTRUCTION OF CASTLES WITH MULTIPLE- SOURCES IMAGE-BASED TECHNIQUES
