We present the results of a spatio-kinematic study of the planetary nebula Menzel 1 using spectro-photometric mapping and a 3-D photoionization code. We create several 2-D emission line images from our long-slit spectra, and use these to derive the line fluxes for 15 lines, the Halpha/Hbeta extinction map, and the [SII] line ratio density map of the nebula. We use our photoionization code constrained by these data to derive the three-dimensional nebular structure and ionizing star parameters of…
THREE-DIMENSIONAL PHOTOIONIZATION STRUCTURE AND DISTANCES OF PLANETARY NEBULAE. I. NGC 6369
Continuing our series of papers on the three-dimensional (3D) structures of and accurate distances to planetary nebulae (PNe), we present our study of the planetary nebula NGC 6781. For this object,
A 3D view of the planetary nebula NGC 40
Abstract We present the results of a study of the planetary nebula NGC 40 with the use of the 3-D photoionization code Mocassin constrained by observational data of different types. The modeling
A self-consistent stellar and 3D nebular model of planetary nebula IC 418
Aims. We present a coherent stellar and nebular model that reproduces observations of the planetary nebula IC 418. We aim to test whether a stellar model found to provide an optimal description of
Spatially resolved spectroscopy of planetary nebulae and their halos - I. Five galactic disk objects
Strong mass loss off stars at the tip of the asymptotic giant branch (AGB) profoundly affects properties of these stars and their surroundings, including the subsequent planetary nebula (PN) stage.
Modelling of aspherical nebulae – I. A quick pseudo-3D photoionization code
We describe a pseudo-3D photoionization code, nebu_3d, and its associated visualization tool, visneb_3d, which are able to treat a wide variety of nebular geometries easily and rapidly, by combining
Physico-chemical spectroscopic mapping of the planetary nebula NGC 40 and the 2d_neb, a new 2D algorithm to study ionized nebulae
In this paper we present an analysis of the physical and chemical conditions of the planetary nebula NGC 40 through spatially resolved spectroscopic maps. We also introduce a new algorithm –2d_neb–
IPHAS extinction distances to planetary nebulae
Aims. The determination of reliable distances to planetary nebulae (PNe) is a major difficulty in the study of this class of objects in the Galaxy. The availability of new photometric surveys such as
Distance mapping applied to four well-known planetary nebulae and a nova shell
Accurate distance estimates of astrophysical objects such as planetary nebulae (PNe), and nova and supernova remnants, among others, allow us to constrain their physical characteristics, such as
The Hα surface brightness–radius relation: a robust statistical distance indicator for planetary nebulae
Measuring the distances to Galactic planetary nebulae (PNe) has been an intractable problem for many decades. We have now established a robust optical statistical distance indicator, the Hα surface
A new statistical distance scale for planetary nebulae
In the first part of the present article we discuss the consistency among different individual distance methods of Galactic planetary nebulae, while in the second part we develop a new statistical

A NEW GENERATION OF PHOTOIONIZATION CODES: THREE-DIMENSIONAL MODELS. THE BIPOLAR PLANETARY NEBULA IC 4406
A three-dimensional self-consistent photoionization code is developed in order to build more realistic models for asymmetric and/or inhomogeneous photoionized nebulae. With these models the
The systematics and distribution of molecular hydrogen in planetary nebulae
The infrared S(l) line of molecular hydrogen has been searched for in twenty-two planetary nebulae using the imaging mode of the AngloAustralian Telescope. The line was detected and mapped in eleven

Near-infrared and optical observations of IRAS sources in and near dense cores
This paper reports observations of 34 IRAS sources associated with dense cores in dark clouds at wavelengths 0.4-20 microns. The stars near cores tend to be visible T Tauri stars, while stars in
