Aims. The discovery of the first active interstellar object 2I/Borisov provides an unprecedented opportunity to study planetary formation processes in another planetary system. In particular, spectroscopic observations of 2I allow us to constrain the composition of its nuclear ices. Methods. We obtained optical spectra of 2I with the 4.2 m William Herschel and 2.5 m Isaac Newton telescopes between 2019 September 30 and October 13, when the comet was between 2.5 au and 2.4 au from the Sun. We…

Dust Production of Interstellar Comet 2I/Borisov Throughout Perihelion
The recently discovered comet 2I/Borisov quickly became a prime target for comet observers during its perihelion approach in 2019 December, after it was discovered to be the first comet of
Detection of Diatomic Carbon in 2I/Borisov
2I/Borisov is the first-ever observed interstellar comet (and the second detected interstellar object). It was discovered on 30 August 2019 and has a heliocentric orbital eccentricity of ~ 3.35,
Activity of the first interstellar comet 2I/Borisov around perihelion: results from Indian observatories
Comet 2I/Borisov is the first true interstellar comet discovered. Here we present results from observational programs at two Indian observatories, 2 m Himalayan Chandra Telescope at the Indian
Unusual polarimetric properties for interstellar comet 2I/Borisov
Polarimetric observations of comet 2I/Borisov are performed using the European Southern Observatory Very Large Telescope to derive the physical characteristics of its coma dust particles, and it is shown that the polarization of 2I / Borisov is higher than what is typically measured for Solar System comets.
A search for the origin of the interstellar comet 2I/Borisov
The discovery of the second interstellar object 2I/Borisov on 2019 August 30 raises the question of whether it was ejected recently from a nearby stellar system. Here we compute the asymptotic
Carbon Chain Depletion of 2I/Borisov
The composition of comets in the solar system come in multiple groups thought to encode information about their formation in different regions o fthe outer protosolar disk. The recent discovery of
Early Observations of the Interstellar Comet 2I/Borisov
2I/Borisov is the second ever interstellar object (ISO). It is very different from the first ISO ’Oumuamua by showing cometary activities, and hence provides a unique opportunity to study comets that
Interstellar comet 2I/Borisov: dust composition from multiband photometry and modelling
We present results from multiband photometry of the interstellar comet 2I/Borisov (C/2019 Q4). The observations were carried out in the two months before its perihelion passage. The UBVri
Searching for water ice in the coma of interstellar object 2I/Borisov
Interstellar Objects (ISO) passing through our Solar System offer a rare opportunity to probe the physical and chemical processes involved in solid body and planet formation in extrasolar systems.

Comet 2I/Borisov is the first interstellar comet observed in the solar system, providing a unique opportunity to understand the physical conditions that prevailed in a distant unknown planetary

Initial Characterization of Interstellar Comet 2I/2019 Q4 (Borisov)
We present initial observations of the interstellar body 2I/(2019 Q4) Borisov taken to determine its nature prior to the perihelion in 2019 December. Images from the Nordic Optical Telescope show a
Initial characterization of interstellar comet 2I/Borisov
Interstellar comets penetrating through the Solar System had been anticipated for decades 1 , 2 . The discovery of asteroidal-looking ‘Oumuamua 3 , 4 was thus a huge surprise and a puzzle.
Carbon Chain Depletion of 2I/Borisov
The composition of comets in the solar system come in multiple groups thought to encode information about their formation in different regions o fthe outer protosolar disk. The recent discovery of
Detection of CN Gas in Interstellar Object 2I/Borisov
The detection of Interstellar Objects passing through the Solar System offers the promise of constraining the physical and chemical processes involved in planetary formation in other extrasolar
Spitzer Observations of Interstellar Object 1I/‘Oumuamua
1I/'Oumuamua is the first confirmed interstellar body in our solar system. Here we report on observations of 'Oumuamua made with the Spitzer Space Telescope on 2017 November 21–22 (UT). We integrated
Spectroscopy and thermal modelling of the first interstellar object 1I/2017 U1 ‘Oumuamua
During the formation and evolution of the Solar System, significant numbers of cometary and asteroidal bodies were ejected into interstellar space1,2. It is reasonable to expect that the same
Interstellar Interloper 1I/2017 U1: Observations from the NOT and WIYN Telescopes
We present observations of the interstellar interloper 1I/2017 U1 ('Oumuamua) taken during its 2017 October flyby of Earth. The optical colors B-V = 0.70$\pm$0.06, V-R = 0.45$\pm$0.05, overlap those
TRAPPIST: TRAnsiting Planets and PlanetesImals Small Telescope
TRAPPIST is a 60-cm robotic telescope that has been installed in June 2010 at the ESO La Silla Observatory [1]. Operated from Liège (Belgium) it is devoted to the detection and characterisation of
Ground-based monitoring of comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko gas activity throughout the Rosetta mission
Simultaneously to the ESA Rosetta mission, a world-wide ground-based campaign provided measurements of the large scale activity of comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko through measurement of optically
Observational Constraints on the Lifetime of Cometary H2O
Abstract We used a carefully selected set of observations of five comets along with a vectorial model and the Haser model to explore the lifetimes against photodissociation of H 2 O and OH in
