The management of open fractures of the tibia is a major problem in trauma surgery. In closed and open fractures of the tibia and fibula, additional stabilization of the fibula provides more rigid fixation than plating the tibia alone. Cancellous bone grafting like the fibula pro tibia technique has a high success rate, and is of utmost importance for the healing of an infected osteosynthesis of the tibia.
