This study examines the role of 1alpha,25-dihydroxyvitamin D(3) (1,25(OH)(2)D(3)) and the natural compound, bryostatin-1, on the monocytic differentiation of NB4 acute promyelocytic leukemia cells. We previously showed that 1,25(OH)(2)D(3) primes NB4 cells to mature along the monocyte/macrophage pathway in response to the tumor-promoting phorbol ester, 12-O-tetradecanoylphorbol-13-acetate (TPA). This maturation response involves protein kinase C (PKC) signaling, activation of the transcription… Expand
Targeting peroxiredoxin I potentiates 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3-induced cell differentiation in leukemia cells.
A novel role for Prx I is revealed in VD3‑induced cell differentiation, and it is suggested that targeting PrX I may represent a novel strategy to enhance VD 3‑induced leukemia cell differentiation. Expand
Wogonin induces the granulocytic differentiation of human NB4 promyelocytic leukemia cells and up‐regulates phospholipid scramblase 1 gene expression
The results reported here demonstrated that wogonin could promote the granulocytic differentiation of NB4 cells by up‐regulating the expression of PLSCR1 gene. Expand
Vitamin D in combination cancer treatment
Calcitriol elicits anti-tumor effects mainly through the induction of cancer cell apoptosis, cell cycle arrest, differentiation, angiogenesis and the inhibition of cell invasiveness by a number of mechanisms. Expand
Requirement for myeloid growth factors in the differentiation of acute promyelocytic leukaemia
It is demonstrated that both pharmacologic differentiating agents and myeloid growth factors are required, but neither sufficient, for the differentiation of APL cells, which may improve the clinical efficacy of differentiation therapy in APL. Expand
Dendritic cells and myeloid leukaemias: plasticity and commitment in cell differentiation
Findings have important implications for understanding the developmental origins of DCs, for harnessing the APC properties of this class of tumour to stimulate the therapeutic anti‐tumour immunity, and for developing useful models for the study of human DC physiology and pathology. Expand
Vitamin D receptor and CD86 expression in the skin of vitamin D-deficient swine.
Since VDR and CD86 expression are decreased in the setting of melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancers, this study suggests a potential role of vitamin D-deficiency in the progression of skin malignancies. Expand
CIAPIN1 nuclear accumulation predicts poor clinical outcome in epithelial ovarian cancer
Elevated expression of nuclear CIAPIN1 negatively correlated with the survival of EOC patients, suggesting that nuclear CI APIN1 might serve as a prognostic biomarker for E OC patients. Expand
Neutrophilic Dermatoses Associated with Myeloid Malignancies
This work reviews the clinical spectrum of myeloid malignancy-associated ND with an emphasis on recently identified mechanisms and suggests a clonal link between myeloids malignancies and ND. Expand
A Framework for Integrating Directed and Undirected Annotations to Build Explanatory Models of cis-eQTL Data
Bayesian Annotation Guided eQTL Analysis (BAGEA), a variational Bayes framework to model cis-eQTLs using directed and undirected genomic annotations, revealed epigenetic marks that are relevant for gene expression in different tissues and cell types. Expand
