OBJECTIVE The diagnostic approach to pleural diseases may be difficult. The CT scan, which is the current diagnostic technique, has limited accuracy both in the differentiation between benign and malignant pleural diseases and in the diagnosis of primary and metastatic pleural neoplasms.
