Two new methyltransferase inhibitors were isolated from the culture filtrate of Streptomyces sp. strain No. 1513 and named 1513-DMIa and 1513-DMIb. 1513-DMIa and 1513-DMIb were distinguished in certain properties from DMI-1, DMI-2, DMI-3 and DMI-4 previously reported. The molecular weight of 1513-DMIa and 1513-DMIb were estimated to be 576 and 8400 from the results of FAB-MS and gel filtration, respectively. The inhibitory activities of 1513-DMIa and 1513-DMIb were shown to be pH- and… Expand
Topostatin, a novel inhibitor of topoisomerases I and II produced by Thermomonospora alba strain No. 1520. I. Taxonomy, fermentation, isolation and biological activities.
TLDR
A novel inhibitor of topoisomerases designated as topostatin was isolated from the culture filtrate of Thermomonospora alba strain No. 1520, but did not exhibit any antimicrobial activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, yeasts and fungi. Expand

TLDR
Using bacitracin-resistant strains, enhanced and astringent production of fattiviracin was achieved, and FV-13, which has the longest fatty acid chains in the molecule, was dramatically enhanced by a C(55)-isoprenyl phosphate metabolism. Expand
Medicinal chemistry and pharmacology of genus Tripterygium (Celastraceae).
TLDR
The main mode of action of the Tripterygium extracts and triptolide is the inhibition of expression of proinflammatory genes such as those for interleukin-2, inducible nitric oxide synthase, tumor necrosis factor-alpha, cyclooxygenase-2 and interferon-gamma. Expand
A comprehensive review of glycosylated bacterial natural products.
TLDR
This comprehensive analysis of 15 940 bacterial natural products revealed 3426 glycosides containing 344 distinct appended carbohydrates and highlights a range of unique opportunities for future biosynthetic study and glycodiversification efforts. Expand

DMI-1, a new DNA methyltransferase inhibitor produced by Streptomyces sp. strain No. 560.
TLDR
DMI-1 is a novel inhibitor of methyltransferase isolated from microorganisms and is structurally different from sinefungin and A9145C which are structural analogs of S-adenosylmethionine (methyl donor). Expand
DMI-2 and DMI-3, DNA methyltransferase inhibitors produced by Streptomyces sp. strain no. 560.
TLDR
DMI-2 and DMI-3 showed strong inhibition against N6-methyladenine-DNA methyltransferase (M. Eco RI) and Eco RI in a competitive manner with respect to plasmid pUC19 and SAM. Expand
Inhibition of DNA methyltransferase by microbial inhibitors and fatty acids.
TLDR
The results suggest that the length of the carbon chain, the number of double bonds and the presence of a carboxyl group and branched methyl group in the fatty acid molecule may play an important role in the inhibition of DNA methyltransferase. Expand
Sequence-specific BamHI methylase. Purification and characterization.
TLDR
Studies on the mechanism of methylation indicate that both strands of the recognition sequence are modified in a single binding event, and the sequence specificity of the methylase is relaxed upon the addition of glycerol in the reaction mixture. Expand
A new site-specific endonuclease, ScaI, from Streptomyces caespitosus.
TLDR
A new site-specific endonuclease has been isolated from Streptomyces caespitosus and named ScaI, and was found to cleave the recognition sequence between the internal T and A, leaving flush ends to the cleaved fragments. Expand
A9145, a new adenine-containing antifungal antibiotic. I. Discovery and isolation.
TLDR
A9145 is a new water-soluble antifungal antibiotic produced by a strain of Streptomyces griseolus (NRRL 3739) that contains adenine and a possible sugar moiety, and forms crystalline organic and inorganic salts. Expand
Inhibition of EcoRI DNA methylase with cofactor analogs.
TLDR
Gel retardation assays confirm that the methylase-DNA-sinefungin complex is sequence-specific, and the ternary complex is the first sequence- specific complex detected for any DNA methylase. Expand
