We compute certain spinorial cohomology groups controlling possible supersymmetric deformations of eleven-dimensional supergravity up to order l3 in the Planck length. At (l) and (l2) the spinorial cohomology groups are trivial and therefore the theory cannot be deformed supersymmetrically. At (l3) the corresponding spinorial cohomology group is generated by a nontrivial element. On an eleven-dimensional manifold M such that p1(M)≠0, this element corresponds to a supersymmetric deformation of… Expand

Supersymmetric corrections to eleven-dimensional supergravity
In this paper we study eleven-dimensional supergravity in its most general form. This is done by implementing manifest supersymmetry (and Lorentz invariance) through the use of the geometric (torsionExpand
Covariant one-loop amplitudes in D=11
Abstract We generalize to the eleven-dimensional superparticle Berkovits' prescription for loop computations in the pure spinor approach to covariant quantization of the superstring. Using these ten-Expand
Massive IIA supergravities
We perform a systematic search for all possible massive deformations of IIA supergravity in ten dimensions. We show that there exist exactly two possibilities: Romans supergravity andExpand
R^4, purified
We derive, using the pure-spinor formalism, the complete -- including the fermions -- four-point effective action of both type II superstrings to all orders in $\alpha'$, at tree level in stringExpand
R4 in type II superstrings
We review the result, given in [1], of the complete four-point effective action of both type II superstrings to all orders in α′, at tree level in string loops. We find that, in the quartic-fieldExpand
Twisted Cohomotopy Implies M-Theory Anomaly Cancellation on 8-Manifolds
We consider the hypothesis that the C-field 4-flux and 7-flux forms in M-theory are in the image of the non-abelian Chern character map from the non-abelian generalized cohomology theory calledExpand
Fivebrane instantons and Calabi-Yau fourfolds with flux
Using recent results on eleven-dimensional superspace, we compute the contribution of fivebrane instantons with four fermionic zeromodes in M-theory compactifications on Calabi-Yau fourfolds withExpand
3d N=1$$ \mathcal{N}=1 $$ effective supergravity and F-theory from M-theory on fourfolds
A bstractWe consider 3d N=1$$ \mathcal{N}=1 $$ M-theory compactifications on Calabi-Yau fourfolds, and the effective 3d theory of light modes obtained by reduction from eleven dimensions. We study inExpand
Twisted cohomotopy implies M5-brane anomaly cancellation
We highlight what seems to be a remaining subtlety in the argument for the cancellation of the total anomaly associated with the M5-brane in M-theory. Then we prove that this subtlety is resolvedExpand

Spinorial cohomology and maximally supersymmetric theories
Fields in supersymmetric gauge theories may be seen as elements in a spinorial cohomology. We elaborate on this subject, specialising to maximally supersymmetric theories, where the superspaceExpand
Pure spinors, function superspaces and supergravity theories in ten and eleven dimensions
Abstract The constraints of d = 10 supergravity coupled to super Yang-Mills and d = 11 supergravity are studied from the viewpoint of the differential geometry of certain function superspaces. For dExpand
Formulation of 11-dimensional supergravity in superspace
Abstract We formulate on-shell 11-dimensional supergravity in superspace and express its equations of motion in terms of purely geometrical quantities. All torsion and curvature components are solvedExpand
Manifestly supersymmetric M theory
In this paper, the low-energy effective dynamics of M-theory, eleven-dimensional supergravity, is taken off-shell in a manifestly supersymmetric formulation. We show that a previously proposedExpand
On higher-order corrections in M theory
A theoretical analysis of higher-order corrections to D = 11 supergravity is given in a superspace framework. It is shown that any deformation of D = 11 supergravity for which the lowest-dimensionalExpand
Covariant Quantization of Superstrings Without Pure Spinor Constraints
We construct a covariant quantum superstring, extending Berkovits' approach by introdu\-cing new ghosts to relax the pure spinor constraints. The central charge of the underlying Kac-Moody algebra,Expand
Supersymmetric higher-derivative actions in 10 and 11 dimensions, the associated superalgebras and their formulation in superspace
Higher-derivative terms in the string and M-theory effective actions are strongly constrained by supersymmetry. Using a mixture of techniques, involving both string-amplitude calculations and anExpand
The Structure of Maximally Supersymmetric Yang-Mills Theory: Constraining Higher-Order Corrections
We solve the superspace Bianchi identities for ten-dimensional supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory without imposing any kind of constraints apart from the standard conventional one. In this way weExpand
Spinorial cohomology of abelian d=10 super-Yang-Mills at alpha'^3
We compute the spinorial cohomology of ten-dimensional abelian SYM at order alpha'^3 and we find that it is trivial. Consequently, linear supersymmetry alone excludes the presence of alpha'^3-orderExpand
Weyl Superspace
It is shown that the equations of motion of eleven-dimensional supergravity follow from setting the dimension zero components of the superspace torsion tensor equal to the Dirac matrices. The proofExpand
