The spruce coneworm, Dioryctria abietella Denis & Schiffermüller (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae), is a major pest in spruce seed orchards in Europe. Initial work on its pheromone ecology reported significant attraction of males to (9Z,11E)‐tetradecadienyl acetate (9Z,11E‐14:OAc), but this compound appeared to be a very weak attractant in field trials. In this study, we show that a second female‐produced compound, the polyunsaturated long‐chain hydrocarbon (3Z,6Z,9Z,12Z,15Z)‐pentacosapentaene (C25…
Identification of Sex Pheromone Components of Korean Dioryctria abietella (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae) Population and Synergism of Pheromone and Pine Cone Volatile Blends
TLDR
It was showed that pheromone traps baited with 100:1,000 ∼ 100:3,000 ug of 9Z,11E-14:OAc to C25 pentaene and limonene will be useful for the exact monitoring of D. abietella flight phenology in Pinus koraiensis forests.
Sex pheromone of the cloaked pug moth, Eupithecia abietaria (Lepidoptera: Geometridae), a pest of spruce cones
TLDR
With sex pheromones recently identified for two other moths that are major pests on spruce cones, the spruce seed moth, Cydia strobilella L., and theSpruce coneworm, Dioryctria abietella Denis & Schiffermüller, phersomone‐based monitoring can now be achieved for the whole guild of cone‐feeding moths in European spruce Seed orchards.
Identification and Field Evaluation of the Sex Pheromone of Orthaga achatina (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae)
TLDR
Orthaga achatina is the third Pyraloidea species found to utilize Z3,Z6,Z9,Z12,Z15–23:H as a sex pheromone component.
Hybrid Sex Pheromones of the Hibiscus Flower-bud Borer, Rehimena surusalis
TLDR
The sex pheromone of the hibiscus flower borer Rehimena surusalis (Walker) was analyzed by gas chromatography with electroantennographic detection (GC-EAD) and GC-mass spectrometry (GC/MS).
Preliminary Identification of the Sex Pheromones of the Citrus Fruit Borer (Citripestis sagittiferella Moore) Inhabiting the Mekong Delta of Vietnam
Abstract Citripestis sagittiferella is one of the most harmful pest insects of pomelo in the Mekong Delta of Vietnam. In order to utilize sex pheromone as tool for population monitoring by which
Transcriptome Analysis and Characterization of Chemosensory Genes in the Forest Pest, Dioryctria abietella (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae)
TLDR
A transcriptome-wide analysis combined with PCR results revealed that except for GRs, the majority of other five chemosensory gene families in Lepidoptera were expressed in the antennae, including 160 chemOSensory genes in D. abietella, which identifies potential molecular targets involved in olfaction, gustation and non-chemosensORY functions for control of this pest.
Challenges of pheromone-based mating disruption of Cydia strobilella and Dioryctria abietella in spruce seed orchards
TLDR
The results show that mating disruption has potential to reduce cone damage in spruce seed orchards caused by C. strobilella and D. abietella, but optimisation of the technique is required to achieve consistent and efficient population suppression of these pests.

TLDR
The field results with pentaene and the unresolved complexity of the taxonomy, ecology, and management of southern coneworms support the need for a comprehensive examination of the chemical ecology of Dioryctria spp.
(3Z,6Z,9Z,12Z,15Z)-Pentacosapentaene and (9Z,11E)-Tetradecadienyl Acetate: Attractant Lure Blend for Dioryctria ebeli (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae)
TLDR
The south coastal coneworm, Dioryctria ebeli Mutuura & Monroe, is a common pest in seed orchards of slash pine (Pinus elliottii L.) in the coastal region of southeastern USA, particularly Florida.
Optimization of pheromone lure and trap design for monitoring the fir coneworm, Dioryctria abietivorella
TLDR
The optimized two‐component lure blend in the Pherotech diamond trap is recommended for monitoring fir coneworm infestations and opens the possibility for control tactics using mating disruption or attract‐and‐kill techniques.
(3Z,6Z,9Z,12Z,15Z)-Pentacosapentaene, a Key Pheromone Component of the Fir Coneworm Moth, Dioryctria abietivorella
TLDR
The sex pheromone of the fir coneworm moth consists of a blend of (3Z,6Z, 9Z,12Z,15Z)-pentacosapentaene and (9Z,11E)-tetradecadienyl acetate, which may represent an important and widespread new phersomone blend motif within the Lepidoptera.
Pheromone Identification of Dioryctria abietivorella (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae) from an Eastern North American Population: Geographic Variation in Pheromone Response
TLDR
Evidence is provided that the eastern and western populations of D. abietivorella are distinct geographic pheromone races, with 9Z-14:Ac being required for attracting males of the eastern population but not Males of the western population.
Identification of Critical Secondary Components of the Sex Pheromone of the Navel Orangeworm (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae)
TLDR
A four-component sex pheromone blend that is as attractive or more attractive to male navel orangeworm moths, Amyelois transitella (Walker) (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae), is identified and may indicate a paradigm shift in the range of compounds that constitute sex phersomone blends for individual lepidopteran species.
SEX PHEROMONE OF THE CONE PYRALID DIORYCTRIA ABIETELLA

Unusual pheromone chemistry in the navel orangeworm: novel sex attractants and a behavioral antagonist
TLDR
The navel orangeworm sex pheromone is also an attractant for the meal moth, Pyralis farinalis L. (Pyralidae), but (Z,Z)-11,13-hexadecadien-1-yl acetate is a behavioral antagonist, which may be highly effective in mating disruption and monitoring programs.
