Abstract ‘South – South cooperation’ and ‘regionalism’ have been the buzzwords used to describe new forms of inter-state collaboration after the end of the Cold War. This paper attempts to trace the emerging linkages between ASEAN—particularly Malaysia—and the newly independent states of Central Asia.
