To clarify the postprandial glucose suppression effect of flavonoids, the inhibitory effects of catechins and theaflavins against alpha-glucosidase (AGH) were examined in this study. It was initially demonstrated that theaflavins and catechins preferentially inhibited maltase rather than sucrase in an immobilized AGH inhibitory assay system. For the maltase inhibitory effects of theaflavins, the effects were observed in descending order of potency of theaflavin (TF)-3-O-gallate (Gal) > TF-3,3… Expand
Preparation of theasinensin A and theasinensin B and exploration of their inhibitory mechanism on α-glucosidase.
TLDR
The results showed that TSA and TSB could inhibit the activity of α-glucosidase in a reversible and noncompetitive manner with IC50 values of 6.342 and 24.464 μg mL-1, respectively, which were much lower than that of acarbose. Expand
α-Glucosidase- and α-amylase-inhibitory activities of phlorotannins from Eisenia bicyclis.
BACKGROUND In an effort to develop alternative therapeutic agents, strong inhibitory activity against α-glucosidase and α-amylase was detected in Eisenia bicyclis methanolic extract. RESULTS InExpand
Inhibitory effects of muscadine anthocyanins on α-glucosidase and pancreatic lipase activities.
TLDR
Inhibitory effects of the Noble muscadine grape extracts and the representative phytochemicals for anthocyanins on two enzymes, that is, α-glucosidase and pancreatic lipase, were investigated regarding their antidiabetic activities, and cyanidin exhibited a much stronger antidi diabetic activity than cyanid in-3,5-diglucoside, suggesting that anthOCyanins may have higher inhibitory activities after being digested. Advance in Dietary Polyphenols as α-Glucosidases Inhibitors: A Review on Structure-Activity Relationship Aspect
TLDR
The aim of this review is to give an overview of the research reports on the structure-activity relationship of dietary polyphenols inhibiting α-glucosidases. Expand
Enzymatic Preparation of Methylated Theaflavins and their Antioxidant Activities
We investigated the antioxidant activities of two methylated theaflavins, theaflavin 3-O-(3-O-methyl) gallate (TF3MeG) and theaflavin 3-O-(3-O-methyl)gallate 3 -O-gallate (TF3MeG3 G), which wereExpand
α-Glucosidase inhibiton and antiglycation activity of laccase-catalyzed catechin polymers.
TLDR
It is suggested that enzymatic production of catechin polymers could have a potential protective effect in type 2 diabetes, diabetic complications, and other free radical related diseases. Expand
Dietary phenolic compounds selectively inhibit the individual subunits of maltase-glucoamylase and sucrase-isomaltase with the potential of modulating glucose release.
TLDR
Inhibition of fast-digesting Ct-MGAM and Ct-SI by EGCG and chlorogenic acid could lead to a slow, but complete, digestion of starch for improved glycemic response of starchy foods with potential health benefit. Expand
Inhibition of α-Glucosidase, Intestinal Glucose Absorption, and Antidiabetic Properties by Caralluma europaea
TLDR
It is shown that Caralluma europaea has a significant antihyperglycemic activity, which could be due to the inhibition of α-glucosidase activity and enteric absorption of glucose. Expand
Specificity of tyrosinase-catalyzed synthesis of theaflavins
Abstract This study kinetically characterized the mechanism of the enzymatic synthesis of theaflavins (TFs) from catechins by mushroom tyrosinase (EC 1.14.18.1). In reactions containing one of fourExpand
Synergic study of α-glucosidase inhibitory action of aloin and its antioxidant activity with and without camel β-casein and its peptides.
TLDR
The mixture of aloin, β-CN and peptides showed a very high antioxidant activity in a synergistic manner as compared to each component alone as well as a high antioxidant functional ingredient. Expand
