Abstract We explore freezing dark energy, where the evolution of the field approaches that of a cosmological constant at late times. We propose two general, two parameter forms to describe the class of freezing field models, in analogy to ones for thawing fields, here based on the physics of the flow parameter or the calibrated w–w′ phase space. Observables such as distances and Hubble parameters are fit to within 0.1%, and the dark energy equation of state generally to within better than 1… Expand

Constraints on field flows of quintessence dark energy
The quest for understanding the late-time acceleration is haunted by an immense freedom in the analysis of dynamical models for dark energy in extended parameter spaces. Often-times having no priorExpand
Pole dark energy
Theories with a pole in the kinetic term have been used to great effect in studying inflation, owing to their quantum stability and attractor properties. We explore the use of such pole kinetic termsExpand
New tracker models of dark energy
We describe a new class of dark energy (DE) models which behave like cosmological trackers at early times. These models are based on the $\alpha$-attractor set of potentials, originally discussed inExpand
Gauss-Bonnet-coupled Quintessential Inflation
We study in detail a new model of quintessential inflation where the inflaton field is coupled to the Gauss-Bonnet term. This coupling ensures that the variation of the field is kept sub-Planckian,Expand

Dark energy with w→−1: Asymptotic Λ versus pseudo-Λ
If the dark energy density asymptotically approaches a nonzero constant, $\rho_{DE} \rightarrow \rho_0$, then its equation of state parameter $w$ necessarily approaches $-1$. The converse is notExpand

Measuring deviations from a cosmological constant: a field-space parametrization.
TLDR
A relatively simple description of dark energy based on the dynamics of a scalar field which is exact in the limit that the equation of state approaches a cosmological constant, assuming some degree of smoothness of the potential. Expand
Field Flows of Dark Energy
Scalar field dark energy evolving from a long radiation- or matter-dominated epoch has characteristic dynamics. While slow-roll approximations are invalid, a well defined field expansion captures theExpand

Dark energy dynamics in the recent universe is influenced by its evolution through the long, matter-dominated expansion history. A particular dynamical property, the flow variable, remains constantExpand
Limits of quintessence.

The Paths of Quintessence
The structure of the dark energy equation of state phase plane holds important information on the nature of the physics. We explain the bounds of the freezing and thawing models of scalar field darkExpand

TLDR
It is argued that a number of models in which the energy density of the scalar field red-shifts in a specific manner are studied could reconcile the low dynamical estimates of the mean mass density with the negligibly small spatial curvature preferred by inflation. Expand

The extent to which precision distance-redshift observations can map out the recent expansion history of the universe, including the acceleration-deceleration transition, and the components and equations of state of the energy density is examined. Expand

Parameterizing and Measuring Dark Energy Trajectories from Late Inflatons
