Tamm states of carbon nanotubes
The fine structure of the π-electron spectrum of semi-infinite carbotubulenes (cylindrical graphene tubes) is investigated. Together with closed short-diameter tubelenes, open nanotubes whoseExpand
Strong Spin-Orbit Coupling in Low Dimensional Systems Investigated by Static and Time-Resolved ARPES

Probing Majorana modes in the tunneling spectra of a resonant level.
A numerical approach to treat finite-size superconducting chains supporting Majorana modes based on iterative application of a two-site Bogoliubov transformation is developed, which demonstrates the applicability of the method by studying a resonant level attached to the superconductor subject to external perturbations. Photonic realization of the relativistic Kronig-Penney model and relativistic Tamm surface states
Photonic analogues of the relativistic Kronig-Penney model and of relativistic surface Tamm states are proposed for light propagation in fibre Bragg gratings (FBGs) with phase defects. A periodicExpand
Engineered Light Scattering in Colloidal Photonic Heterocrystals
Photonic heterocrystals are prepared by sandwiching films of self-assembled opal and force-assembled Langmuir–Blodgett colloidal crystals. Anomalously strong light scattering in conjunction with lowExpand
Dyakonov surface waves in lossy metamaterials
Abstract We analyze the existence of localized waves in the vicinities of the interface between two dielectrics, provided one of them is uniaxial and lossy. We found two families of surface waves,Expand
Granular graphene: Direct observation of edge states on zigzag and armchair boundaries
We propose a mechanical granular graphene obtained by replacing the carbon atoms with macroscopic spherical stainless steel beads in contact. The experimental measured dispersion relation isExpand
Two-electron theory of surface and impurity states
The effect of electron-electron interactions is taken into account, by employing LOwdin's alternant molecular orbital method, within the framework of the tight-binding approximation. The energyExpand
Electronic Structure and Properties of Graphen Nanoribbons: Zigzag and Armchair Edges
Scanning tunneling microscopy is a very suitable instrument for the local probing and spectroscopic characterization of individual molecules, in our case narrow graphene nanoribbons. The electronicExpand
Grating-coupled excitation of Tamm waves
We formulated a boundary-value problem for the excitation of Tamm waves guided by the periodically corrugated interface of a homogeneous material and a rugate filter. Both partnering materials areExpand

Quantum Mechanics of Electrons in Crystal Lattices
Introduction .–Through the work of Bloch our understanding of the behaviour of electrons in crystal lattices has been much advanced. The principal idea of Bloch’s theory is the assumption that theExpand
