1. The neuropil of the corpora pedunculata was examined with phase and electronmicroscope in two species of ants: Formica rufa and Camponotus ligniperdus. It consists of a fine feltwork of fibers with interspersed synaptic glomeruli. 2. The glomeruli contain a large presynaptic end knob with dozens of small postsynaptic endfeet attached to its surface.
