Summary1.Forty-seven bacterial strains were examined for their ability to form steam-volatile amines during growth in a complex medium. Twenty-one strains were found to produce a total of seven primary monoamines. Butylamine, amylamine and 2-phenylethylamine were present most frequently and in largest quantities.
