Expand

Dans cette revue, apres avoir presente brievement the biologie moleculaire du poliovirus et the pathogenese de the poliomyelite, nous ferons le point sur the prophylaxie de thePoliovirus and les strategies mises en oeuvre pour remporter the lutte contre the maladie. Expand
Circulating vaccine-derived polioviruses: current state of knowledge.
The emergence of cVDPVs underscores the critical importance of eliminating the last pockets of wild poliov virus circulation, maintaining universally high levels of polio vaccine coverage, stopping OPV use as soon as it is safely possible to do so, and continuing sensitive poliovirus surveillance into the foreseeable future. Expand
Long-Term Circulation of Vaccine-Derived Poliovirus That Causes Paralytic Disease
The characterization of a highly evolved derivative of the Sabin vaccine strain isolated in a case of paralytic poliomyelitis from a 7-month-old immunocompetent baby in an apparently adequately immunized population points to the possibility of long-term circulation of Sabin vaccines strain derivatives associated with an increase in their neurovirulence. Circulating vaccine-derived poliovirus and its implications for polio surveillance and eradication in Nigeria: A review of the literature
This review reports on circulating vaccine-derived poliovirus (cVDPV) and its implications for polio surveillance and eradication in Nigeria, a review of the literature. It also describes theExpand
Circulation of Endemic Type 2 Vaccine-Derived Poliovirus in Egypt from 1983 to 1993
Comparison of sequences encoding the major capsid protein, VP1, revealed that all lineages were derived from a single OPV infection that occurred around 1983 and that progeny from the initiating infection circulated for approximately a decade within Egypt along several independent chains of transmission. Expand
Transmissibility and persistence of oral polio vaccine viruses: implications for the global poliomyelitis eradication initiative.
The findings indicate that OPV viruses could persist under various plausible circumstances, and that this potential should be a major consideration when planning the cessation of OPV vaccination. Expand
Retrospective Analysis of a Local Cessation of Vaccination against Poliomyelitis: a Possible Scenario for the Future
A retrospective analysis of the cessation of OPV usage in a region of the Byelorussian Republic of the former Soviet Union in 1963 to 1966 is described, finding that a widespread circulation and evolution of independent lineages of vaccine-derived polioviruses took place in the region. Expand
Update on Vaccine-Derived Polioviruses — Worldwide, July 2012–December 2013
This report updates previous surveillance summaries and describes VDPVs detected worldwide during July 2012-December 2013, and develops a plan for coordinated worldwide replacement of trivalent OPV with bivalent OPV (bOPV; types 1 and 3) by 2016, preceded by introduction of at least 1 dose of inactivated poliovirus vaccine (IPV) containing all three poliov virus serotypes into routine immunization schedules worldwide to ensure high population immunity to all polioviruses. Update on vaccine-derived polioviruses--worldwide, April 2011-June 2012.

  • MMWR. Morbidity and mortality weekly report
  • 2012
To prevent VDPV emergence and spread, all countries should maintain high vaccination coverage against all three poliovirus serotypes; OPV use will be discontinued worldwide once all WPV transmission is interrupted. Expand
