An eTrer explanation of sunrise and sunset fading: on lung VLF paths is confirmed by examining duta taken ov?r a wider range of frequency and directions of propagation, it is found, however, that there is an appreciable dependence of the fadin<: period on the magnetic direction of propagation. It is shown that ihis dependence is qualitatively in agreement with what would be expected from a sharply bounded ionospliTe and a transverse magnetic field.
