The main transmission mechanism for hepatitis C virus is through blood products. In order to know seroprevalence of antibodies in military personnel, 2,564 samples at the Central Military Hospital with a second generation Enzymatic Immunoassay (EIA-2) were studied. All participants were males; the mean age was 25 years (range 17-47). Positive results were found in 19 potential donors (0.74%); similar seroprevalences have been reported by others.
