After a brief note on Sigmund Freud's connection with hypnosis, the subjective and objective reasons behind Freud's rejection of the technique are listed. The psycho-dynamics of the psychoanalytical session are then compared with reference to the culture and psychological resistance to hypnosis and psychoanalysis. The significance of psychoneurosis and the concept of cure in psychoanalysis are also examined. It is concluded that therapy should make every effort to avoid rigid dogmatism.
