A bacterial strain, able to efficiently degrade benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene, and o-xylene ( BTEX) compounds, was isolated by acclimating and enriching the activated sludge from the aeration tank in refinery wastewater treatment plant using BTEX as the sole carbon source.
