The effects and the possible mode of action of some drugs were studied in isolated preparations of the human upper urinary tract. Norepinephrine, histamine and serotonin had excitatory effects, whereas isoprenaline had inhibitory effects on smooth muscle activity. Norepinephrine induced different types of mechanical activity in different tissues of the human upper urinary tract suggesting different and separate coupling mechanism between the receptors involved and the calcium pools responsible…

Effects of prostaglandin synthetase inhibitors on the upper urinary tract

It is determined that indomethacin reduces the smooth muscle activity of human renal pelvis preparations in a tissue bath, which may represent a further possible direct effect of indometHacin on the upper urinary tract during the treatment of renal colic.

Mechanisms controlling ureteral motility

This work has shown that the 5-HT receptor subtype in the porcine ureter is a novel subtype and its role in the regulation of IGF-1 and IGF-2 activity is still poorly understood.

Effects of ketanserin and DOI on spontaneous and 5‐HT‐evoked peristalsis of the pig ureter in vivo

Contractility of porcine ureter is mediated by 5‐HT2 receptors and their antagonists ketanserin and methysergide seem to be promising drugs for treatment of acute ureters of anaesthetized pigs or in preparing theUreter for Ureteroscopy.
