OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to examine the changes in natural killer (NK) cell activity, pulse rate, and pain intensity among older adults before and after acupuncture treatment. METHODS Fifty-six individuals (16 males and 40 females), age 60 to 82 years (mean age 72.4 ± 5.0), who were experiencing pain in the shoulder, low back, or knee, participated in the study. NK cell activity, leukocyte differentiation (granulocytes and lymphocytes), pulse rate, and blood pressure values…

Effectiveness of Acupuncture and Infrared Therapies for Reducing Musculoskeletal Pain in the Elderly

TLDR
Investigation at the elderly integrated health post Klodran, Karanganyar, Central Java found acupunture and infrared combination is the most effective treatment for reducing musculoskeletal pain in the elderly.

Effect of Electroacupuncture on Natural-Killer Cells and Tumor Size in Patients with Cervical Squamous-Cell Carcinoma: A Randomized Controlled Trial.

TLDR
Patients with cervical SCC at stages IIb-IIIb, who received 4 cycles of chemotherapy using 50 mg/m2/week of cisplatin and EA at ST 36, had increased NK-cell percentages in their peripheral blood and had reductions in their cervical tumors.

Acupuncture as a Complementary Therapy for Cancer Care: Acceptability and Preferences of Patients and Informal Caregivers.

TLDR
Cancer patients, cancer survivors, and informal caregivers would accept acupuncture as a complementary therapy, providing the foundations for this complementary therapy to be incorporated into holistic and supportive cancer care, both for patients and those supporting them.

Influence of electroacupuncture stimulation on skin temperature, skin blood flow, muscle blood volume and pupil diameter

TLDR
The study showed that 10 min of EA stimulation increased ST, SBF and MBV, and decreased PD, compared to baseline, while no significant change was observed in the control group, which suggests that EA stimulation alters local blood flow and ST.

Influence of Different Durations of Electroacupuncture Stimulation on Skin Blood Flow and Muscle Blood Volume

TLDR
It is considered that 10 min EA stimulation could be a sufficient duration to induce a blood flow response in a clinical situation when increasing the blood flow is desirable.

Complementary Therapies as a Strategy to Reduce Stress and Stimulate the Immunity of Women With Breast Cancer

TLDR
Evidence is presented on the use of complementary therapies as a stress reduction strategy and on its stimulating effects on the immune system of women with breast cancer.

Complementary Therapies as a Strategy to Reduce Stress and Stimulate Immunity of Women With Breast Cancer

TLDR
Evidence is presented on the use of complementary therapies as a stress reduction strategy and on its stimulating effects on the immune system of women with breast cancer.

Does Electroacupuncture Influence Skin Temperature, Skin Blood Flow, and Muscle Blood Volume Among Stimulation Sites?

TLDR
Electroacupuncture stimulation at four different muscles led to changes in the skin temperature, skin blood flow, and muscle blood volume that varied depending on the stimulation sites, which indicated the potential efficacy of EA in human subjects.

Stress reduction strategies in breast cancer: review of pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic based strategies

TLDR
Non-pharmacological approaches, along with pharmacological therapies part of clinical trials are available to cancer patients to reduce stress, and have promise to break the cycle of cancer and stress.

Training System Using a Force Feedback Device for Acupuncture Treatment

TLDR
A new automatic camera functionality is added, in which the camera position automatically adjusts to the target area of the force feedback device, so that the user can easily practice an insertion operation at a fixed position.

Effect of acupuncture treatment on the immune function impairment found in anxious women.

TLDR
Impaired immune functions in anxious women were significantly improved by acupuncture, and augmented immune parameters (superoxide anion levels and lymphoproliferation of the patient subgroup whose values had been too high) were significantly diminished.

Acupuncture Regulates Leukocyte Subpopulations in Human Peripheral Blood

TLDR
Observations indicate that acupuncture may regulate the immune system and promote the activities of humoral and cellular immunity as well as NK cell activity.

Molecular changes in remote tissues induced by electro-acupuncture stimulation at acupoint ST36.

TLDR
Electro-acupuncture mediates its effects through changes in cellular activity, gene expression, and enzymatic activity in multiple remote tissues, and the sum of these alterations may explain the beneficial effects of EA.

Acupuncture and Dry-Needling for Low Back Pain: An Updated Systematic Review Within the Framework of the Cochrane Collaboration

TLDR
The data suggest that acupuncture and dry-needling may be useful adjuncts to other therapies for chronic low back pain and that acupuncture is not more effective than other conventional and “alternative” treatments.

Is There Any Difference in Human Pupillary Reaction When Different Acupuncture Points Are Stimulated?

TLDR
Pupillary reaction varies depending on the different stimulation sites, and no significant change in the pupil diameter was observed on ST36, CV12 and during the non-stimulation intervention.
