Convergent intercellular synaptic interaction is actualized, mainly, by two neurotransmitter systems: glutamate- and GABA-ergic (excitatory and inhibitory postsynaptic potentials, respectively). Fast and slow postsynaptic receptors of glutamate- and GABA-ergic synapses are described. All other brain systems are divergent neuromodulators.
