OBJECTIVE Many investigations described a positive effect of clonidine for premedication (reduction of perioperative stress response, analgetic effect, anaesthetic-saving effect, prophylaxis of postoperative shivering). The most important objective in premedication is undisputed anxiolysis. The anxiolytic effect of clonidine is differently discussed.
