OBJECTIVE To analyze the clinical features of severe acute pancreatitis (SAP) in aged patients, and to explore the measures of its diagnosis and treatment. METHODS The clinical data of 100 aged patients (55-85 years old) with SAP admitted from January 2003 to December 2005 were reviewed and compared with those of 221 non-aged SAP patients (11-54 years old) admitted at the same period. RESULTS Totally 112 times of onset occurred in 100 aged patients, and the main causes for senile SAP were…
Role of Liver in Modulating the Release of Inflammatory Cytokines Involved in Lung and Multiple Organ Dysfunction in Severe Acute Pancreatitis
TLDR
It is suggested that the aggravation of SAP leading to development of MODS exhibited the gut-liver-lung cytokine axis, and indicates that liver performs both protective and stimulatory activities in the modulation of pro-inflammatory cytokine generation and their distribution to remote organs, such as lungs.

TLDR
Treatment of CP in the elderly should be directed at controlling the symptoms, by management of diabetes and exocrine insufficiency because pain and complications are rare in elderly patients with CP.
Acute Pancreatitis in Five European Countries: Etiology and Mortality
TLDR
Both cholelithiasis and alcohol were main etiologic factors in the more northern countries studied, whereas chole lithiasis alone predominated in theMore southern ones.
Pancreatic disease in the elderly.
TLDR
Age, by itself, is not a reason for withholding surgical intervention from an individual patient, but today, denial of pancreatic resection is much more likely to be based on severe co-morbidity.
